Morning guys,

I know; possibly slightly off-topic. We have a MCMS2002 server running
on a Win2K box. Everyday for some, as yet, unknown reason the website
running on this server slows to a crawl. Everyday around 16:30 local
time.

I've done the obvious. Checked windows scheduled tasks, SQL tasks,
automatic updates scheduled on all products that facilitate automatic
updating.

Also checked Event Viewer, IIS logfiles and nothing is standing out.

Is there a bit of software that any of you could recommend that can
capture application activity between 2 given points in time. i.e. 16:30
- 17:00

Are there any automated tasks carried out by MCMS that I'm un-aware of
?

Any help would greatly be appreciated.

Hi Tony,

I would use Performance Monitor to check if there is any specific activity.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Tony, theres a number of processes which could be running in the
background causing this problem and leading to the consumption of
valuable memory:

1)Anti Virus/Anti spyware. Do you have any scheduled scans which run on
this server at this time of day?To check this goto taskmanager and
click on processes, if you see a particular process chewing up memory
or cpu allocation this is your culprit.

2)Take Stefans advice and see if there is anything else on the network
congesting the line. I'd also use a package called commview
[http://www.tamos.com/products/commview/] which will give u a more
detailed analysis of network activity a packet level.

3. Use tools like NetMon and RegMon to get a detailed breakdown of
actual files and registry keys in use on the server. This again should
point you in the right direction if there is a rogue process at play.

Happy investigating..let me know how you get on!
John.
