Problems doing content updates though SDO
|
|
|
| We are trying to synch our dev enviroment with prouduction by exporting an
sdo from production and importing it into dev. Small packages work fine but
larger packages appear to fail. Is there a size limit on sdos? We are hoping
that if we break the site up into small enough chuncks we can do the import
but we don't know what the maximum size that will work is.

| Mike,
You are right. By default, you cannot import packages more than 200 KB on a
server. However, you can increase the upload limit to what you need. Please
take a look at http://support.microsoft.com/kb/824471/ and also
http://support.microsoft.com/?kbid=814774. Hope this helps.
We had to increase our limit as well.

| This is useful information but I am not sure it applies to our situation. We
are doing the import through the site manager client. I have seen some other
posts about a hotfix for this that you can get from Microsoft support.
However, I am 100% certain I have this all right. Does Sitemanager make use
of IIS to do imports?

| Hello Mike,
Yes, all site manager operations make use of IIS.

| Do I need the hot fix? This is the response Stefan gave to another sdo import
problem.
this is a known bug.
If you are on SP1a please request hotfix 907802
If you are on SP2 please request hotfix 916114
Cheers,
Stefan

| No. I have not done that yet.
Can you tell when the hot fix is needed and when it is not? I want to get
some clarification on that.
Thanks,
Mike

| Hello Mike,
I can't help with respect to the hotfix as neither are published yet.
You should try upping the MaxUploadSize first as you will need to do this
regardless of any fixes. If your imports work after doing this then you don't
need the hotfix!

| We are experiencing the same issues with both our Windows Server 2003 SP1 and
Windows XP SP2 development systems with CMS 2002 SP2. We can import an SDO of
350MB however our 448MB fails.
I have exported and imported the channels and resources individually and
that works fine. Just can't do all at once.
I checked our MaxUploadSize and it is set at 4Gb. I have requested the
916114 hotfix. Now we are waiting to recieve that and give it a try.

| Thanks for the info. Do you any idea why they are making us go through
support to get the hot fix?

| Hi Mike,
non-security hotfixes are only tested for a specific scenario for a specific
customer.
That means the testing is not as complete as for a service pack.
So hotfixes need to be requested through Microsoft support in case there are
any problems with the installation of the fix.
The service request will be free of charge.
Cheers,
Stefan

| My SDO problem was resolved by intalling hot fix 916114. By the way, I
assumed I would be charged for contacting Microsoft support but I was not.
They emailed me the a link to download the hotfix and opened a support case
to assist me with any problems installing the hotix. The whole process was
very easy.

| Hi Mike,
hotfix requests for our products are usually free of charge during the
mainstream support phase of our products.
Cheers,
