| We are currently in the middle of trying to redesign our company Website.
In comparing solutions for a content management tool for a site that needs
to go live by early September, we are considering (and heavily leaning
towards) MSCMS 2002 and using SPS 2003 search (since we're already going to
use it for our intranet). But I have to consider budget. What are the
licensing implications of using SPS 2003 search for use in a public site? Do
we have to purchase an additional license for the SPS External Connector
package? Are there other options using CALS, etc.?
I'm just not sure I understand the licensing model for this option. This is
especially tough since MOSS 2007 is coming out, and I'm not sure if we
should be purchasing Software Assurance on each of these. The timetable
does not allow us to wait for the release of MOSS 2007.
Thanks for any insight or recommendations.

| Hi Jeff,
when using SPS as search engine for a public website you need to purchase an
external connector license for SPS.
This is not very cheap.
If you are looking for a free-of-charge search engine you should have look
