MOSS 2007 and VS 2005 installed on machine. I want to create an MCMS
website. Opened VS and went to create a new Web Site but there is no
"MCMS Web Application" template available in My Templates. does anyone
have idea what is going wrong or missing? Am I trying to do the right
thing to create a new MCMS Website having MOSS installed?

Please respond.
Thanks
Tahir

Hi Tahir,

MOSS uses a completly different approach to design websites.
Templates are not modified/created using VS.NET but by using SharePoint
designer.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hello Stefan,

I understand the concept of templates is now gone as it was in MCMS
2002. Point here is when I am creating a new web site, i have option to
select from "ASP.NET Web Site"/"ASP.NET Web Service" etc and i can
select Language to be VB.NET/C#/J#. These are predefined/installed
templates using which i can create website. Now that i want to create a
MCMS Website there must be a template "MCMS Web Application" under My
Templates (where an icon says "Search Online Templates..."). See the
article http://www.mcmsfaq.com/articles/sp2mp.asp.

Am i confusing MCMS SP2 with MOSS? And if i want to create a website
using MOSS is there some other way i need to follow? Where i should
start from and what would be basic steps?

Thanks
Tahir

Hi Tahir,

MOSS is not MCMS 2002 SP2.
MOSS is the next version of MCMS which is combined with SharePoint.
Did you install MCMS 2002 SP2 or MOSS?

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Tahir,

in MOSS 2007 you need to create a new site using an site template.
Then use SharePoint Designer to create or modify master pages or page
layouts (the new name for template files).

Cheers,
Stefan
