Author Channels Locking Owner

Hi,
When does the Locking Owner of a Channel change to everybody. I created a
Channel and when its Published I still get the Locking Owner as my name
instead of Everybody. Shouldn't the Locking Owner change to Everybody when
its Published, like Postings do.

Thanks
Arjuna.

Hi Arjuna,

channels don't get approved so the locking owner for a channel is not
handled in the same way as for a posting.
Actually it does not matter which user is listed for a channel.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

So under what conditions does the locking owner of a channel changes to
everybody.

Thanks
Arjuna.

Hi Arjuna,

not sure. Actually this property is not activly used by the channel object.
The Locking owner is defined on HierarchyItem level to ensure that postings
and templates can use it.
As channel is also derived from HierarchyItem it also inherits this
property. But it does not activly use it.
So it might be random.
Please look at the MCMS documentation to see that only postings and
templates make use of this property.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

I did check the documentation, unfortunately it does not contain any
concrete information on how this property is used or affects the postings and
templates. Could you please let me know as to how this is used.

Thanks
Arjuna.

Hi Arjuna,

for posting this indicates which user modified the page object last while
the item is in the workflow (means not approved). Only this author is able
to edit the page till the item is approved

for templates this indicates which user checked out the template in VS.NET
using MCMS template explorer.

Cheers,
Stefan

Hi Stefan,

Thanks, I was under the impression that the Locking Owner of the Channel is
used by the Postings and Templates in some way. Thanks for clearing this out.

Thanks
Arjuna.
