Author Deleted resources and the Archive folder

Hi,

Could someone please confirm my understanding of what happens to resources
once they get deleted/overwritten?

We have had some situations where an author has been unable to edit and then
save their own postings. They are getting a 'Save Placeholder Failed'
message. The message goes on to say that the user does not have sufficient
rights. The user has all the necessary rights in the channel and the resource
gallery. What the problem seems to be related to is resources that have found
their way into an Archive folder. The authors don't have access to the
Archive (only the adminstrators do) so they get the error. As I understand
things, the posting is now linked to and old version of a resource that now
exists in the Archive. In a lot of cases there is still a (presumably newer)
version of the resouce in the Resouce Gallery.

I'm guessing that the resource manager has done one of two things. They have
either explicitly deleted the resource and then uploaded a new version of it,
or they have simply uploaded a new version and overwritten the one that was
already there. Is there a way to prevent resources that are still being used
from being deleted/overwritten? Or can we get a posting to always use the
latest version that exists in the resource gallery?

The strange thing is that subscibers have still been able to open the
resource even though it has apparently been archived.

The solution to date has been to have an administator identify and remove
the archived resources from the posting and then the author can add the new
version. I've been using the utility provided by Stefan to list resource
dependencies and figure out which resources are causing problems. But is
there an easier way? A way that authors can manage themselves?

Thanks,
Sean

Hi Sean,

the problem will only occur if the items is deleted. Not if it is replaced
with a new version.
There is no way to prevent the deletion of resource gallery items if they
are referenced somewhere.

Cheers,
Stefan

Thanks Stefan,

So why is it that a user can still view the resource in 'live' mode. Even
though the author can't edit that posting, users can still access the
resource in the published version of the posting.

Hi Sean,

that should not happen and I haven't seen this before.
You would need to open a support case to get this specific issue analyzed.

Cheers,
Stefan
