Author Restricting Access to Resource Gallery Files???

Hello,

Can anyone tell me how we would go about restricting access such as via
SiteMinder to files served up from the MS CMS Resource Gallery. These files
seem to all have the URL format like:
/NR/rdonlyres/366395B3-8416-429D-8AA5-4AFD23A0472C/0/filename.xls

Yet in the Gallery the files appear organized by sub galleries and we ONLY
want to restrict access to certain sub galleries, NOT everything under the
/NR/rdonlyres path. How is this normally accomplished with MS CMS? I'm
talking about restricting access to certain resources to certain site
visitors. We don't want ALL resources to be available to the public.

Also can you tell me what the /0/ portion of the above URL signifies?

Thanks.

I suggest that you use SiteManager and apply security through the use
of Roles. The /NR/etc. directory is the disk cache of the resources,
and I really would not reccomend doing anything to this folder!

Hi Ninerfan,

you can only restrict access by assigning user rights to the galleries.

Cheers,
Stefan

So what you are saying is there is NO way to restrict access for EXTERNAL
SITE VISITORS to specific sub galleries. True?

Since there is no way that I'm aware of to identify different sub galleries
from the /NR/ url string then there is NO way to restrict access to those
various sub galleries. Is this true?

Yes I could restrict access via SiteMinder to ALL /NR/ usl strings but that
is of no help to us since much of the resources files should be unrestricted.

Stefan, can you explain in more detail what you mean by this one liner?
> you can only restrict access by assigning user rights to the galleries.

Your comment seems to be about restricting gallery access for publishers.
That's not the question. The question is about restricting access for
EXTERNAL site visitors.

Please let me know if that is impossible with this system.

Thanks.

Hi Ninerfan,

you can restrict the access using permissions on the resource galleries.
Users can only access items in resource galleries they have rights to.
So you need to create different subscriber right groups, add the users that
should have access to the resource galleries to these rights groups and
assign the rights groups to the resource galleries.

Cheers,
Stefan
