Error 1720 driving me insane

| I am trying (in fact, to be more accurate, have been trying for 3 DAYS) to
install Commerce Server 2002 on my Windows Server 2003 machine. I have
followed the installation guide to the letter, only to repeatedly encounter
the following message when the installation is finalising :

Event Category: None

Does anyone have any idea how to remedy this? I'm pretty much at the end of
my tether here and am getting dangerously close to throwing things around!
I've installed this software on countless other Win 2k3 servers without a
problem, I just don't see why it's playing up on this particular box. I'm
doing a custom install and installing the direct mailer and the predictor.
Can someone pleeeeease help me before I break down in tears?!!!

| Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.
The main problem with Error 1720 is that it could be just about anything in
the server. I can give you a long list of things to check but
1. Verify that you have a recent version of the Windows Scripting 5.6.
Otherwise install the current version
2. Verify that MDAC 2.7 is installed. Note that MDAC 2.7 will also install
MSXML 3.0 in replace mode.
3. Verify that MSXML 4.0 is not installed on the machine, if it installed,
uninstall it (the 4.0 version)
4. Delete any directory created by the failed installation.
5. From the Component Services, delete all Commerce Server component found
6. Scan the registry for Commerce Server and delete any entries found. This
could be time-consuming but safer than running a third-party tool to clean
the registry. A third party tool that does a good jog is called RegScrub.
Even after running regscrub, verify that there are no more Commerce Server
entries by searching through the registry and delete anyone still existing.
7. Reboot the server and re-install.
Another suggestion would be to enable windows installer logging, refer to
Q223300 How to Enable Windows Installer Logging
http://support.microsoft.com/?id=223300. I have not used it to
troubleshoot the issue so I am not sure how readable the log would be. If
you think it could have some useful info, I would recommend openning a
support incident.

| Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.
Try using regmon when you try to install CS. It can be download from:
http://www.sysinternals.com/ntw2k/source/regmon.shtml. It is a 3rd party
utility that is useful in troubleshooting errors accessing the registry.
