Direct Mailer Licensing?
|
|
|
| Dear Group,
Can anyone point me to a licensing document that states that you do not need
to buy another commerce server license to install direct mailer on your SQL
server box?
Thanks,
Scott

| Hi Scott,
You need a Commerce Server license for this.
From the docs:
The Direct Mailer service can be on ComputerA and the Direct Mailer database
can be in ComputerB. When a direct mail campaign item is created using
Business Desk, a SQL Server Agent Job is created in the Direct Mailer
database (ComputerB). According to the schedule of this job, the job calls
the Direct Mailer service in ComputerA to actually process the mails.
For this setup to work, Direct Mailer service also has to be installed in
ComputerB. This install is just necessary for the SQL Server Agent job on
ComputerB to communicate with the Direct Mailer service on ComputerA. The
actual mail processing gets done only at ComputerA.
You must purchase a Commerce Server license for SQL Server.

| Adam,
I saw that too, but a Stuart Presley from Microsoft Developer Support
Middleware & Internet states that :
"The license agreement will allow you to install Commerce Server 2000 on the
SQL Server to support the Direct Mailer component. This is the only
configuration where you can potentially have two copies of Commerce Server
on two different machines under the same license (legally)."

I was after the actual license agreement that states this.
Thanks,
Scott

| I am quite sure that you do need a licence for the second Commerce Server
installation.
