Direct Mailer Job Fails
|
|
| Richard 2004-12-03, 5:52 pm |
| Hi,
I have CS2K2 installed on one machine, and SQL Server and SQL Server Agent
installed on another.
When I try to test a mail campaign in Biz Desk, Biz Desk says "Job
Test_CS_DM_blahblah started successfully". But none of the test emails are
sent.
I checked the event log on the SQL box, and it says:
SQL Server Scheduled Job 'TEST_CS_DM_MyCS_6_0.262977'
(0x64B18D04FD615D4B8880BFB546F8861A)
- Status: Failed
- Invoked on: 2004-12-03 12:59:15
- Message: The job failed. The Job was invoked by User mydomain\admin. The
last step to run was step 1 (TEST_CS_DM_MyCS_6_0.262977_Step).
Any advice as to how I can get Direct Mailer mailing?
Thanks

| As per the commerce server documentation, Commerce Server is required to be
installed on the same machine as the SQL Server.
We are looking at removing this requirement in the next version of the
product.

| Hi, thanks for your quick reply.
I read that "Direct Mailer requires SQL Server Agent in order to start
recurring mailings; however it is not a requirement that Direct Mailer be
installed on the same computer as SQL Server or SQL Server Agent."
)
Is this incorrect, or am I mis-interpreting the doc?
Thanks.

| The documentation is outdated on that page. We will have that fixed up.
I am quite sure that you need both on the same machine, and the below link
confirms that:
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...-us/comsrv2k/ht
m/cs_mmc_directmail_locb.asp
Hope that helps,
madhur

| Hi,
Thanks again for your help.
The link you referenced is actually for Commerce Server 2000, not 2002. Is
that the more up to date document?
I found another reference to running Direct Mailer on a separate machine in
the CS2K2 installation
guide(http://www.microsoft.com/commercese...ation_Guide.htm).
QUOTE
The Direct Mailer service can be on Computer A and the Direct Mailer
database can be on Computer B. When a direct mail campaign item is created
using Business Desk, a SQL Server Agent Job is created in the Direct Mailer
database (on Computer B). According to the schedule of this job, the job
calls the Direct Mailer service on Computer A to actually process the mails.
For this setup to work, the Direct Mailer service also has to be installed
on Computer B. This installation is necessary for the SQL Server Agent job on
Computer B to communicate with the Direct Mailer service on Computer A. The
actual mail processing is performed only on Computer A.
Note You must purchase a Commerce Server license for SQL Server.
END QUOTE
I have Direct Mailer installed on both the CS2K2 and SQL boxes, but the job
still fails as described in my original post.
Again, any help is appreciated. I'm considering taking a stab at writing my
own mailer at this point.
