LocalInventory Pipeline Component doesn't work with Retail2002 Site ?

In testing out my inventory components with the
Retail2002 site I found that the "LocalInventory"
pipeline component does not work as documented anymore.

In retail2002 the basket works on "ProductID" while
LocalInventory read "item.sku" so in my component
(scriptor) I specifically assigned the "ProductID" to the
sku key and added some values to
the "_product_local_inventory" key.. but irrespective of
wether I set "allow backorder" ON or OFF, neither the
_inventory_backorder NOR the _Purchase_Errors simplelist
seems to be getting populated.

I'd appreciate is someone can confirm/deny this.
