Commerce Server 2002 and Win XP

I installed CS2002 developer edition into a Win XP professional. The install was a success with no errors reported. But i am not able to run or compile any of the Commerce projects. Is CS2002 not compatible with WinXP.?
Does it require a Win 2000 machine to register and run successfully?
