About Publishing and refreshing in CS2K?

| we are using CS2K and ASp is used to read and display the contents of
catalogs and User Roles from CS2K,
here i want to know what exactly this Publishing do?
And i have a task of Mimicking Bizdesk Functionality, so for this can i
directly use Publishing API's to mimick the same.
Any help on this will be appreciated.

| The Publishing button refreshes the runtime caches on the site, rebuilds
the custom catalogs and also regenerates the freetext indexes for the
catalogs

| By running the following URL, you can achieve the same functionality
as of "Refresh" button in "Bizdesk -> Catalog Editor".
http://yoursite/BDRefresh.aspx?cache_name=CatalogCache
This might help you in finding more details about mimicking bizdesk
functionality.
