I have a new/clean Windows Server 2003 cpu. No commerce server installed on
it. I want to install Commerce Server 2002 all the way up to FP1/SP3. How
do I proceed? Must I install Commerce Server 2002 SP1 or can I skip that in
favor of SP2? The target CPU has NO Commerce Server software OR Sites.

Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.

Follow the installation guide to get CS installed correctly,
http://www.microsoft.com/commercese...002/Install.asp
up to SP2. Unpup your Retail2002 solution site and verify that you can
browse to the site without errors. Then make sure you can use the bizdesk
without errors.

CS Feature Pack 1 can be downloaded from,
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...E70D-CCC5-444B-
95B3-C61E3DC64781&displaylang=en.

Go to
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...e7-b854-ab01376
908f4/Installation_Guide.htm to get the Installation Guide for Feature Pack
1.

If you choose to build and test CS up to SP2 before installing FP then go
over the section titled Commerce Server 2002 FP1 Software Requirements in
the FP1 installation guide. Otherwise, you can just follow the steps in
this section but make sure you review the CS SP2 installation guide for
steps that might be needed to get the site to work.

The one thing to keep in mind is that you need to have Commerce Server 2002
SP2 before installing FP1. If you know you had a working site before
installing FP1 and you get any errors after installing/configuring FP1, it
gives you a starting point to start troubleshooting from.

Hope it helps, there are quite a few steps here so make sure you read all
the documents before starting the installation.

I have a similar question. I am running Windows 2000 Server and would
like to run Commerce Server SP2, and run SetupDevEdition.exe, however
it is telling me that I need to be runnning Windows 2000 Professional.

I have seen conflicting messages saying that the dev stuff will only
install on Windows 2000 Server and others that say Windows 2000
Professional. (And in the install docs it appears to state Windows
2000 Professional)

Firstly, what OS is required?

Secondly, if 2000 Professional is required, why can't I install the
thing on 2000 Server?! What is the difference? Is there any way to
install on Server? (I can't think of any reason other than Microsoft
making a policy descision rather than a technical descision to limit
the OS that will run the dev tools)

Is then any switch that can be used to skip the OS install when
running SetupDevEdition.exe?

Cheers
Shane
