Author CS2K2 Stopped working on Win2K

Hi,

We have a Win2k Machine with primary domain (Domain1). CS2K2 with service
pack 1 is installed on this machine and CS was working fine on this machine.
Now we created another machine (Domain2) with Windows 2003 and CS2K2 with
service pack 2. In the MMC I could not connect to CS as it always returned
message that could not connect to Administration database. The string I
provided was correct. Then just to test, I provided the string to connect to
MSCS_Admin database on Domain1 (Win2000 machine). Still I could not make
CS2K2 run on Win2K3.
After this, CS2K2 on Domain1 (Win2K) stopped working. We could not figure
out the problem. But if we start Win2K3 machine (Domain2), CS2K2 on Domain1
start working fine. Don't know how CS of domain 1 is linked to CS of domain
2. We uninstalled CS2K2 from domain2 (Win2K3) machine and removed MSCS_Admin
database also. Problem is still there.

Can we somehow "De-Link" CS of Domain1 from Domain2?

Thanks,
Dalvir Singh

Thank you for using Microsoft Newsgroups.

Where is the SQL server or servers that were holding the MSCS_Admin
database? You can only have one MSCS_Admin database by CS installation.
You can have multiple SQL instances in a server and an MSCS_Admin in each.

Not sure if you pointed the CS2K2 installation against the same MSCS_Admin
database. If you did then the CS2K would definitely start working. Do you
have a backup before the installation of CS2K2 that you can restore?

If you use a separate SQL server then the restore might still help because
at one point you pointed the CS2K2 installation to a CS2K MSCS_Admin
database. Not sure if CS2K2 would force changes to the MSCS_Admin of a
CS2K installation after you point to it. It might change the database
thinking you are upgrading.
