| I have been trying to run a email campaign on direct mailer, but the
emails are going out at a rate of only 2 a minute. The DM is setup to
process and send out emails as quickly as possible (with 'Messages Per
Hour' set to 0). The emails themselves are just 1kb and are not
personalised. Any ideas on how to speed up the DM?

| How do you have direct mailer configured, to run against an SMTP server or
to use an Exchange drop folder?
Is the mailing personalized (e.g. configured to hit ASP/ASP.NET page for
personalized content?)
I suggest configuring to use a drop folder and see if it drops the mail in
a timely manner in which case the problem would be on the SMTP side
(perhaps DNS name resolution is the problem?).
Thanks

| I wasn't directly involved, but others in my company recently debugged a
similar symptom with Direct Mailer. What they found was that the mail
content included URLs that the Direct Mailer server was unable to resolve,
either because they were just wrong (typos) or because the network
configuration didn't allow the server to get to those URLs. It appeared as
though the server spent lots of time trying to resolve the URLs. Just one
more thing you can look for.

| Thanks for your suggesiton. It is configured to run with a drop folder
and the emails are not personalised.

| I have taken the URL's out and that has sped things up significantly.
Thanks.

| Good to know, thanks.
I would imagine that if you change from using MHTML (embedded
images/objects) to HTML format (links) that this problem would not occur.
The docs have some information on how to do this - you have to include a
scriptor component to set some CDO flags - we didn't have time before
CS2002 ship to make this an out-of-box setting.
