After unpacking the just released starter site for CS 2007, i followed the
installation guide to make the configurations. As a post installation step
mentioned in this guide, i ran SampleDataImport.exe to import some sample
data for use on this site upon which i came across the following error
message at first (in red font color):

Connecting to Catalog system:
Error: An error occurred creating the configuration section handler for
CommerceServer/catalogWebService: There was a problem reading the site
resources from the Commerce Server administration database for the site
'StarterSite'. Please check that resources exist for the site and that the
process has permission to access the database. The InnerException contains
more details. (c:\inetpub\wwwroot\CatalogWebService\we
b.config line 51)

This was quite confusing to me as i had done everything as mentioned in the
installation guide and i didn't expect any such error message. While being
puzzled with this message, i ran the utility again.... And this time, the
utility passed the point where it gave the error last time. However, this
time another weird but sort of similar error message appeared when the
utility tried to import the catalog... This second error message was as
follows:

Importing catalog:
Error: There was a problem reading the site resources from the Commerce
Server administration database for the site 'StarterSite'. Please check that
resources exist for the site and that the process has permission to access
the database. The InnerException contains more details.

I ran the utility once again. And voila! no error this time!

I still dont know why these error messages appeared. I never really did
anything to resolve these errors except for running the utility over and over
again! Funny!

Hi Agha,

Sorry to hear about that confusing situation. I cannot explain why that
error would suddenly go away on its own.

The first thing to do when troubleshooting an issue with administration
database connectivity is to try using Commerce Server Manager on the
machine exhibiting the problem and see if the site and site resources show
up there correctly. If they do, this is often a security configuration
error.

Thanks and regards
