Is it possible/legal to have two sites to access the same global resource
database?
That is, if I create two sites, I get two global resources, for example for
the profiles with two different databases, right?
Now if I change the connection string to point to the first site's profiles
database they both point the same database even that they are different
global resources.

Is this doable (no conflicts or other) and legal, since what I've read, the
standard edition limits 1 site 1 global resource?

(hopefully I was clear. I'm a bit new on CS).

TIA!

Absolutely!

You're just not quite going about it the right way. Rather than make two
Profiles resources have the same connection strings, you need to make the
sites share the exact same global Profiles resource. This is easily done
when you unPuP your site throgh the customn unpacking steps. When you get
to the 'Global Resource Pointers' page, just select the existing Profiles
resource from the drop down list so that the the table entry changes from

Profiles | (Add new global resource)
to
Profiles | Profiles(some_other_place)

If you already have your sites unpacked, you can open Commerce Server
Manager and browse to Commerce Sites --> Site2 --> Site Resources -->
Profiles(machine_Site2_profiles). Right click, select Properties. Just
change the value of s_RefResource to
"Profiles(machine_MyOtherSite_profiles)", or what ever the name of the
other global profile resource is. You can then safely delete the unused
Profiles resource and both sites will share the same profiles.
