Pointing to a new Profile Database
|
|
|
| Hi,
Is it possible for the commerce site running on one server to point
to another database. I tried changing the connection string of the
Profiles global resource but I get an exception when I try to run the
application. Please assist.
Thanks in advance

| What kind of error are you getting? Make sure you change the Partitions
as well. There are several connection strings associated with profiles.
This should work with no problem. Let me know.

| Can you please let me know what are the steps I need to follow for
this. I changed the connection string in the 'Global Resources' section
in Commerce server manager. Further, do you how we need to point to
campaigns? I took an entire backup of my site's sitename_commerce
database and restored it on another server. I also deployed my code
there. However, when I run the application from that(staging) server, I
get an 'Unspecified Error' exception. Can you please give me some steps
to follow. I'm totally new to Commerce server. Please assist.
Thanks very much

| Each resource in a Commerce Site has a set of connection strings associated
with it. You will need to manually change each one if you are manually
moving your database. A much easier way to move your databases would be to
pack your site into a pup package, then use the custom un-pup process to
unpack to different databases.
But even with a pack/unpack, you still need to change you profile data
source connection strings manually. To do this, in Commerce Server Manager
browse to Global Resources --> Profiles --> Profile Catalog --> Data
Sources --> ProfileService_SQLSource --> Partitions. In the right pane,
edit the connection string of each partition listed.
