Hi!,

There is my problem. I am trying to put in function a
test environment to modify my order processing pages.
But it does'nt work. When I want to enter the secure
site, it goes automatically on the Production environment
for that part of the site.

On my Dev server, on the Commerce Server Manager, there
is two site define. The Shop that point to the
Production environment and the Shop_Dev that I want to
put in function on this Development server. When I want
to test web pages, I have an 500 errror page. Doesn't
want to go on the secure site. But I did change my pages
to point to the Shop_Dev site.

What is the best way to configure and test environment
that will be exactly as the production environment? Is
the only way be to have physiquely the same as the
production environment?

Thanks in advance I really need help to solve my problem.

How would you update your production site from the test site?

Would you copy code, and re-compile on the production site, or just copy
files and register the dlls?

Would you Pup the site, then install on the production site?

We have a setup where our servers are seperate. The Production site is
composed of a front-end webserver/back-end SQL server setup. The test site
has everything running on one machine (less messing with...other problems).
Anyway, we copy the code (after a thorough shakedown) from the test site to
the production site, and re-compile locally. Is a tad easier (in our
opinion) than copying dlls and whatnot, as some files need to be compiled
locally (don't ask).

Good Luck,
Ryan

Hello,

You describe a configuration with a shared Commerce Server (CS)
Administration database for your development/test and production stages.
This should function and allow you to modify the dev/test application files
separately from the production files.

Have you created an IIS application for the dev/test stage and a second IIS
application for the production stage? Are you using separate IIS Web sites
for each? Different IP ports? Ensure that the Commerce Server application
and Web server settings for each stage are indendent and correct in
Commerce Server Manager. Once these settings are in place, you should not
receive the 500 error when connecting to the application.

Another method of segregating the stages is to create independent CS
Administration databases for each stage and manage them separately. When
you are ready to propagate files across stages, you could use the Site
Packager to pack from dev/test and unpack to production, or a scripted or
manual file copy process to move the content and code. Data stored in the
runtime databases could be carried across in the .pup file or you could use
SQL replication or bulk copy to move it as needed. These processes could be
scripted for automated deployment from dev/test to production. You may also
be interested in Microsoft Application Center as a cross-stage
synchronization solution.
