I have another queston, is it possible to copy over custom cubes in the Analysis Server from one server to another? We have CS2002 Std on one server running a couple of sites and we have built a new server with CS2002 Ent Ed, where I would like to set th
em up, the problem I get is when I pack the sites up it doesn't pick up the custom cubes we use for reporting. I have backed the db up by right clicking on the dw name in the Analysis Server part and choose archive database, but when I restore the db over
the top of the deployed packed site, it does include the custom cubes, but the site will not import new web logs, it just hangs or crashes out of the application.

The packaging of a site does not pick up Datawarehouse changes made to
either SQL or OLAP. You have to re-apply the changes after unpacking the
new site. When archiving the cubes, did you follow the instructions in the
BOL section 'Moving the Analysis Database'?

Brian,

Thanks for your reply.

When I re-apply the achive I my exsisting DTS import and conversion jobs fail or crash.

BOL section??? When I archive the cube it was just by right clicking on the Analsis Server db and choosing Archive. Is there a way of archiving cubes on thier own?

Brian is out this week, but by BOL I think he means Books Online (in this
case, the CS2002 CHM Help file).

Under the topic "Moving the Contents of the Data Warehouse", you will find
the subtopic "Moving the Analysis Database".

Archive the analysis database.
Restore the analysis database into the new location.
Process the virtual cubes.

Thanks David,

Yes, I had followed these instructions to restore the database, and have now imported the custom cubes across.

One more question, is there a way to extract a custom cube from one site and import it into another site? I've tried the copy option but I get 'Same datasource name but some of the connection string properties are different'.

You're getting that error message because datasource names must be unique
per server. The easiest thing to do is to change the source server
datasource properties to match what you want the destination server to be
BEFORE doing the copy and paste. When the cube copy and paste is done, you
can change the source server datasource properties back to their original
values.
