Author Failed to read auxiliary profile for friendly value?...

Hello all,

I have just created a new profile definition in the Commerce Server Manager which I am referencing from the User Object profile as a custom property. This custom property appears as it should in the business desk, however when I try to populate it, the bu
siness desk saves the data (I have checked SQL), yet when the page refreshes the following error message appears - 'Failed to read auxiliary profile for friendly value'. As far as I know I have followed the instructions in the help files to the letter. Ha
s anyone else experienced this problem? Is it a known issue, or is it something that I have done wrong in setting up this new profile definition?

Many thanks in advance,
Nik

Do you have a custom embeded Profile in the UserObject Profile?

If this is the case, the embeded profile must be in the GeneralInfo group.
If the embeded profile is in other groups, you may get the errors you
mentioned.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

Thanks for your response. This profile is embedded in the GeneralInfo group. Are you aware of any other reasons which may cause this error?

Many thanks

Thanks for your message, Nik.

Let's first make sure it is the custom profile causing the issue. If you
remove the custom profile, is the issue gone?
And, what's the service Pack you have for Commerce Server 2002?

Thanks,
Jason

I just did a quick test with a custom embeded profile and put it under the
"General Information" group (in the Commerce Server Manager Profile
editor). And it works fine.

Could you provide detailed stpes to reproduce the error you got if you
would like to investigate this further?

Thanks,
Jason

Hello Jason,

My name is Scott, I work with Nik. The issue does dissapear if the custom property which links to the custom profile is removed. Just to give you a full picture of what I have done, these are the actions I have carried out :

- Created a new table in SQL Server
- Created a new data object in Com. Server Manager for this new table and added the data members to the data object.
- Right click the new data object and selected 'New Profile Definition', naming it appropriately.
- I have then gone to the profile definition manager for the user object to add a custom property.
- To add the custom property I have said that its type is of the new profile defintion created earlier. I have selected that it is active, nultivalued (it links to the new table's primary key value) and that it maps to u_Pref1 in the UserObject table.
- I have then published the profiles
- Then, going to the business desk to try and edit a profile, it will allow me to enter all details into the user object, including the new profile definition, however when I save it - it saves correctly (i can see the value in the database, in the format
that a multivalued property should be ((1;{value}), yet when the page refreshes I get the error message described and the custom property just says 'Select one' with two options, 'Create new profile' and 'Update existing profile'.

Can you see anything that I have missed out in this process which would result in this error?

Many thanks for your help,
Scott

Hi Jason,

I forgot, just to clarify I have added this custom property to the 'General Information' group.

Thanks

I read the steps you posted and ran a quick test.

at step 3, when you create a new profile based on a new table, do you have
those properties in the GeneralInfo group?
Or do you have a "GeneralInfo" Group in your new profile (not the
UserObject profile)?

The BizDesk looks for a group named GeneralInfo. If the property that is
set as a key is not a member of this group
then you will get a ValidateMembers() error.

Here are the steps that you need to take to resolve this problem:
1. Open Microsoft Commerce Server Manager.
2. Expand Commerce Server Manager
3. Expand Global Resources
4. Expand Profiles
5. Expand Profile Catalog
6. Expand Profile Definitions
7. Click on Newprofile
8. In the right hand Editor pane click on the Add button
9. Choose Add a new group
10. Enter the following information:
Name: GeneralInfo
Display Name: General Information
11. In the Properties list click on the arrow next to General Information
to
expand it.
12. Click on the key property and then use the arrow buttons to place it
in the
General Information group.
13. Repeat step 12 for other properties
14. Click on the Apply button.
15. Click on the Users Profile Definition.
16. When prompted "Would you like to save your changes to the new
profile? click the Yes button.
17. Run iisreset
18. Open the BizDesk and test it

Hope this helps

Thans,
Jason

Jason,

The IISreset seemed to fix it, which is good, but also slightly alarming. Does this mean that in a production environment if our retail division would like to add a new profile definition, we need to perform an IIS reset?

Many thanks for your help,
Scott

Hi Jason,

Having got over this stumbling block, I have run head-first into another(as seems to be the case when developing with Commerce Server!). I am trying to create an instance of my new profile type in code, like so :

ProfileContext profiles = CommerceContext.Current.ProfileSystem;
Profile profile = profiles.CreateProfile("11111","CustomerAccountNumber");

Yet it is erroring out with the message "A profile object with conflicting values for one or more key members already exists". What on earth is that supposed to mean?!! lol...

Thanks again for all your help

This looks like a totally different issue.

It is better to start another post in the Profile group, instead of bizdesk.

Two things to check before new posting:
Do you have a CustomerAccountNumber profile? Do you hvae key vaule 11111
already in this profile database?

Thanks,
Jason

Thanks for your message, Scott.

Glad to know the issue is fixed.

Unloading the bizdesk application works too if not running iisreset.

Thanks,
Jason

Jason,

The IISreset seemed to fix it, which is good, but also slightly alarming.
Does this mean that in a production environment if our retail division
would like to add a new profile definition, we need to perform an IIS

Many thanks for your help,
Scott
