Opt -Out link in text message is to long
|
|
|
| As part of our direct mailings we send a user a text message as opposed to an
HTML message if that is what they have specified on a profile that we keep
for each user. On the text messages there is an opt out link and that link
spans several text lines in the message but only the first line is actually
hyperlinked, the rest of the link shows as plain text. This prevents the
user from clicking on it and arriving at the correct place in our site. Does
anyone have any suggestions on how to prevent this. The opt-out page
requires at least email address and campaign id in the url so that does not
leave much hope of limiting the link to one line. We are considering linking
to an opt out form where the users must provide email address but would
rather avoid this option.
Do I have any other options?

| What mail format are you using? HTML? MHTML? Mime? Plain Text?
If plain text, I can see that might be an issue. I would think the others
would be fine.

We send out both html and text but the issue is with text.
If I send out a long link in a Plain Text email message from outlook it
arrives in one piece as a live link but that same link sent from the direct
mailer will get broken up into separate lines and that pretty much makes it
useless. Any way to avoid the break-up?
Thanks

| I'm checking with an internal CDO alias to try and get an answer for you.
Internally the DirectMailer service uses the CDO object model to compose
the mails, so it has no direct control over this.

| Chris, below is the response I've gotten to this issue:
Looking at the message, I’m not sure how the link is there at all. Doesn’t
the message say that the link is in plain text? I thought that precluded
having links by definition. A smart client, however, should be able to tell
that it is a link and present it as such, but I don’t think CDO can tell.
