Author Virtual Catalogs, 2 questions

Hi everybody

I am using a virtual catalog with only one base catalog included in it. I
want to know 2 things:

1. Since it's not adviced to rebuild the catalogs in a production server, I
would like to have this catalog non-materialized instead of materialized.
The documentation sais this is the default, but it just created the tables
from the moment I created it on the BizDesk, and I don't know how to make
it non-materialized
2. This is what is causing me the biggest trouble: It changes the productid
and the category code and adds the name of the base catalog to it. How can I
avoid this behavior? it completely screws up everything else.

Thanks in advance for your help

1. You dont need to do anything. By default the virtual catalog will be non
materialized.
2. What are the exact issues you are facing? One thing you can do is use the
DisplayName property instead of categoryname or productid if you want it to
display it on site. The DisplayName value will come from the base catalog
display names.

It doesn't look like it's non-materialized by default. It is creating physical tables for the virtual catalog, and everytime I change something in the base catalog, I have to rebuild the virtual one. That, as far as I've read, is the behavior for the mate
rialized virtual catalog.

I tried with the .vbs script that comes in the /support folder, and it sais the operation completed successfuly, but its still doing the same thing.

The issue I am having is that it is changing the ProductID field, it is adding the catalog name at the end, and I need that field, I am using it for several things, my problem is not with the display. The same thing goes for the categories.

The question I am asking is not how to work around my solution accepting that I can't get those fields clean. What I want to know is if I can do anything so that it leaves them intact.

Both materialized and non-materialized virtual catalogs will have several
SQL tables created for them, however, non-materialized VCs will have
smaller tables, and will use the base catalog tables, while materialized
VCs will not use the base catalog tables except when rebuilding.

The category name without the appended catalog name is available in the
column OrigCategoryName, and the same for product ID is available in the
column OrigProductID.
