Datatype mismatch between live and staging environment
|

| In BizDesk- Catalog Definition Designer -
The property definition for the Description property on my live site is
Multilingual Text and on the staging site the definition is Multilingual Text
Long. This type mismatch between the catalog makes it impossible to import
data from the live site to the staging site therefore making testing of
changes on current inventory data impossible.
I have been unable to make this change by deleting and recreating this
property as specified in the Microsoft documentation.
http://msdn.microsoft.com/library/d...talogs_gsiv.asp
I've looked at all the Category and Product definitions to ensure that the
Description field was no longer being used but I still get the error that it
cannot be deleted because the property is in use.
Is there any way that I can change the data type directly on the field, or
any other advice on how to remove the field and add a new one?

| Hi
Which version of Commerce Server are you using? Cs2000 or cs2002?
Also can you make sure that the "Description" property is not present in
the "CatalogDefinitionProperties" table. If it is present, please track the
corresponding Category or product definition from the CatalogDefinitions
table and remove the property from this defintion. Now try deleting and
recreating the proeprty.
Hope this helps.
Thanks
Sudha

| Description property is in the CatalogDefinitionProperties table.
What field do I use to track it back to the CatalogDefinitions?
Here is a link to a screen capture of the two tables.
http://webpages.charter.net/tonycor...iptionField.gif
Based on my observation these are linked via the DefinitionID field. But I
have no matches by that field between these tables.
Could it be an artifact issue? Where an category or product type that has
been deleted?

| The DefinitionID field links back to a Definition defined in the
CatalogDefinitions table. That should tell you which Definition is useing
the property.

| I looked at the screenshot and looks like your CatalogDefinitions table and
CatalogDefinitionProperties table have somehow gotten out of sync. You can
now try and delete all the refernces to "Description" in the
CatalogDefinitionProperties table and then try to delete the property using
bizdesk.
Hope this helps.
Thanks

| Sudha,
Thanks for the info. Deleting those from the table allowed me to delete if
from BizDesk.
