Author I don't understand how to install FPSE on Linux 9 and Apache 2.0

I installed the FPSE server extensions on my Linux 9 (RH) box. I can
login to port 8088 through the web browser.

The problem starts when I try to access the web using the FP client.
I get an error message "The folder 'http://www.domainname.com/' isn't
accessible. The folder may be located in an unavailable location,
protected with a password, or the filename contains a / or \."

I am trying to build an environment that will resemble the one that I
have now on an NT 4 box. I want to be able to set this up so that the
users will not know the difference after I make the switch.

I had planned to do the following:
1. Install FPSE 2002
2. Log into the rootweb and create subwebs using the FP client.

I was able to install the FPSE but now I can't log in. I can log into
the admin settings on port 8088 using the browser but can't get in
through the FP client.

Can anyone help? I would greatly appreciate it. I think that I don't
have to install any apache patch on the 2002 version of FPSE from RTR.

Thanks

The folder "http://Website" isn't accessible. The folder may be located on
an unavailable volume or protected with a password.

Donna,

Have you checked the FAQ (http://www.rtr.com/fpsupport/faq2002.htm)
for Redhat 9, Apache 2.0 and FrontPage interactions?

Couple of points:
Did mod_frontpage.so get created? Is it in your httpd.conf file?
Did you restart your apache?
Is the directory for your log files open? chmod 755 /path/to/logs
Did you check the Apache logs on the linux machine?
Did you check the system log on the linux machine?
Did you edit the HTTP_UNAUTHROZIED.html.var file?

Yes, I finally got this to work.

I am trying to migrate from an NT 4 box and don't really want to go to
the M$2003 world. I think it is better to be a standalone machine if
you don't have to really be in any large network of servers.

The thing that i learned that helped me the most was that Linux 9
prefers you to use the GUIs to do configurations. The instructions
that i had for installing the FPSE were manual. I discovered that if
you edit just one thing using the GUI after you have edited something
manually, the GUI writes over it YIKES!

I also discovered that i hadn't allowed http to go through the
firewall on the box.

Once I read
http://www.johnspencer.info/Red_Hat...2onRedHat9.html
and figured out the other things that I mentioned above, I was home
free. Actually, I think that configuring the Frontpage webs is much
easier in this version than the NT version.

Anyway, thanks for your input and thanks to John Spencer!!!
