Screwy navbar problems in FrontPage 2003
|
|
| Charles Lavin 2005-07-23, 7:50 am |
| Hi --
I have a FrontPage 2003 site. Every page contains one or two navbars created
using Insert | Navigation. These are vertical, graphical navbars based off a
FP Theme (one of FP's included themes, at that).
I have tested and re-tested the site locally, and everything looks great.
However, when I publish the site to a Linux Web server running FPE, this
graphical navbar is replaced by text links on one or two pages. All the
other pages are fine. But no matter what I do, I can't get those affected
pages to display the graphical navbar properly.
If I directly open the outside Web site using FrontPage and I pull up the
affected pages, they look just fine.
As if this weren't bizarre enough: I published the Web to a second,
completely different Unix server running FPE. I got the same problem -- but
on different pages! If on Server 1 I can't get pages 4 and 12 to display
properly no matter what I try, on Server 2 it might be pages 2 and 7.
This is driving me nuts. Deleting the structure.cnf file and republishing
per KB 308137 only partly fixed the problem on one server and didn't do
anything on the other. Wiping out the entire Web and starting from scratch
didn't help, either.
What is causing this behavior, and how do I fix it?
Thanks,
CL

| try this:
open the live web (file/ open web, type in the http:// address and log in)
when the live web opens click tools/ recalculate hyperlinks.
See if that helps.

| Hi --
I've been trying to do that ...
When I click on the Recalculate button, I wind up with the source code of
the recalculate script displayed on my browser screen.
Do you know how I can fix _this_ problem?
Thanks,
CL

| The URL of the Recalculate script? It's the script that runs from the FP
Administration screen. Even if I could post the URL, the Administration site
is password protected ...

For the source code problem: Try using IE instead of Mozilla or
Firefox.
For the nav bar problem: Open the site on the Linux server, open the
pages in question, reapply the theme and save.
