Author Search form not working

2004-10-05, 5:54 pm

I inserted a Web Search component on a page in a subweb.
When I view the page in my browser, instead of seeing the
search form, it says:

[FrontPage Search Component]

(This is running on a Windows server with FP extensions.)

Did you have your host build an index catalog and did you publish w/ FP in Http mode to a server running the FP SE?

That indicates that you have not done both of the following:
1) Installed FPSE to the IIS server (box).
and
2) Configured your virtual web server to use them.

Please look up the term "configure", without the quotes, in your FP
help file.

I did publish the site through FrontPage ussing HTTP mode.

How does my host build an index catalog? They asked me if
I'm using WAIS or Index Server. I have no idea... I just
used the FP Search Component.

They assured me that the FPSE are installed on the Windows
server.

What do you mean by "configure your virtual web server to
use them."? I did a search for "configure" in my FrontPage
client - but haven't found anything relevant.

You are using WAIS, which is the default of the FP search engine. However,
most hosts run index server, which requires that they build a catalog for
your site, which converts it from WAIS. Otherwise, they must disable index
server and allow FP search to use only the WAIS.

It's not something you control, they do.

They may be installed on the host server, but did they actually configure
(apply) them to your web? You need to ask them.

How to check and see if FP Server Extensions are installed on the host
server:
http://www.dnswiz.com/fptype.htm

or, type in your website root URL with /_vti_inf.html ex:
http://www.mysitename.com/_vti_inf.html and you will see whether your site
has them installed and enabled.

Did you use the FrontPage http publish method, or did you FTP to the remote

Hi,

Forward the following steps to the hosting provider and ensure that
indexing is properly configured on the web server as well as on the web
site. Your web site is configured on a Windows 2003 server and WAIS search
is removed from FrontPage server extensions 2002 that is shipped with
Windows 2003

Configuration of Indexing service on an FPSE based web site
1. Install Indexing service through Add/Remove Windows Components.
2. Create a catalog and point this catalog to the FPSE enabled web site.
3. Follow this KB article to Configure indexing service on the FPSE site.
4. HOW TO: Create and Configure a Catalog for indexing.

http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...kb;EN-US;308202
5. Test the catalog using 'Query the catalog' option.

Some troubleshooting Steps
1. Check if Index this site is enabled in the web site properties
2. Ensure that Indexing service is installed. If it is a windows 2003
server, also ensure that Indexing service is allowed in the Web server
extensions in the IIS manager.
3. Ensure that a catalog is created and it is mapped to the appropriate web
site.
4. Open the site in FrontPage and insert a page with a search form in it.
Right click on the Search form and go to properties, and it should contain
some additional properties which are related to index server.
5. Ensure that 'noindexserver' is set to 0 in the registry. If it is 1, it
means that FPSE will not use indexing service, even it is present.
6. Ensure that .IDQ and .IDA file extensions are mapped to IDQ.DLL in the
Application configuration of the Web server properties as well as the
properties of the web site.

Hope this helps
