Hello, this is pertaining to Server 200, IIS 5, FP 2000 extensions . .

I am trying to enable Front Page access on several virtual HTTP servers in
ISS. Using the IIS management console, I choose to "Configure Server
Extensions" . .the wizard starts running and once it prompts me for
everything, it then runs a little while and will come back every time with
one of two error messages:

There is no web named ""

or

Cannot create file "services.cnf"

I have removed the server extensions, reinstalled them, check directory
permissions and everything I can think of. I have looked for a services.cnf
file and cannot find one . I tried creating one manually in _vti_pvt and it
disappears . Also, I can manually delete every FP directory but _vti_pvt .
When I try, it claims it is not empty ..however, there are zero files in it
.. .and my File view is set to view hidden files and system files . .I can
rename the directory ..but not remove it.

I have this happening on 2 machines while another machine is fine with the
same configuration - just different domains mapped to each virtual HTTP
server. I am in a loop of trying the same thing over and over so hoping
someone can help. BTW, one machine USED to work fine with FP and then it
blew up to what I am seeing now . .but I cannot pinpoint if it was an update
or what caused it. Please help.

Hi Phil,

create a new file in your desktop and rename it to services.cnf. Is this
file also disappearing? If this is the case, check for any application in
your computer restricting file with extension .cnf. Also try running the
antivirus program and scan complete system.

Hope this helps

Hi Phil,

if the cnf files are disappearing from your system, then it may be because
of some virus or any other third party programs. We have seen that some
backdoor utilities also causing this problem.

Some of the customers installed some third party phone dialing software and
got this kind of issue.

Please try checking your system using a good antivirus program or any other
system checkup utility

Hope this helps
