Author Ghost Files terminating a Publish operation?

Gentlepeople,
The web site I am trying to publish is 60 GB in size and 4 years old, and
has been
non-maintained but added to by amatuers over this period of time. I am
trying to publish it (Migrate) to new hardware. I started a publish operation
which ran for about 36 hours, but was terminated by a Server Error.

Server Error: The server extensions were unable to access the file
".mincold.gif.tmp". Please check the file permissions.

I have searched for this file on the server I am publishing from, and cannot
find it.
Is it possible that this is a ghost file? A file referenced in an index
somewhere, but that doesn't really exist anymore? If it is, where would be
the most likely place for it
to be referenced? Does anyone have any suggestions?

Thank You for your time,

Larry Barnhill

FP will create .tmp files of your actual files during many actions
Clean out your IE Temp files, then try the usual repairs in the sequence below:
1) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all FP Temp Files
Usually in C:\WINDOWS\Temp and %USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temp
- in FP 2003 you need to look in the super hidden folder
%USERPROFILE%\Local Settings\Temporary Internet Files\FrontPageTempDir
2) In Windows Explorer Find and delete all hidden *.web files
Usually in %USERPROFILE%\Application Data\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
3) Run a Repair on IE
(see http://support.microsoft.com/default.aspx?scid=318378 )
4) Install all Service Packs for your OS, IE, MS Office and your Video card
(Windows Update and Office Update sites, plus your video card supplier site)
5) Open FP and Disable or Uninstall any FP Addins,
6) Open your FP Web/Site and run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks

The file is on the server you are publishing to. When publishing, FP
uploads to a temporary file, then renames the temporary file.

Sir,

Indeed, the file "was" on the server I'm trying to publish to.

0 (zero) bytes in size, in the "Folder Settings" directory. i have deleted

it and will try another publish operation. Thank You very much.

Sir,

Thank You very much for your reply. i am going to perform all the

steps you outlined, just to be on the safe side. However, Mr. Ron Symonds

gave me the tip to look on the server I'm publishing to. Sure enough, that's

where I found the file, zero bytes in size, in the Folder Settings directory.

i have deleted it and will try another publish operation. Stay tuned, and

thank you very much for the information.
