Can a web site be published while the indexing service is running?
Publishing from W2K server, IIS 5.0, Frontpage 2000 to new server running
W2k3 Server Enterprise, IIS 6.0, Frontpage 2000.

I thought I had asked this question before and received a positive answer,
but I've been trying to publish a 60 GB web site to new equipment, and keep
getting server errors about sending a catalogXXX.wci, which abort the publish
operation.

Thank You for your time.

Yes, you can publish while index service is running. Index service should
not be stopped since it covers the entire Windows server, not just your web
site.

It sounds as if one or both of the webs has the index service catalogue in
the webspace, which is a terrible way to run a server.

Sir,

You are correct. The Catalog directory was indeed located on the same

hard drive as the web site. That could possibly account for the errors which

say " High I/O activity ~ ~". I have reconfigured the Indexing service to use

catalogues located in C:\Inetpub. The Web Site search engine still works, and

I am restarting the Publich operation, to see what errors tomorrow brings :-)

Thank You very much,
