I've been using FP to publish a family/small business website for a couple
years but now I need to do something interactive and I just can't make it do
what I want. I want to prompt a user for a filename to download, verify that
the file exists and then give them a link to right click and save the file.
I've been using a Form Field to capture the file name but can't figure out
how to use it to validate the file's existance or customize a link. Is this
possbile in FrontPage or must I extend it with VB or J Script?
Thanks for any direction you can give...

Without going into a database solution and server-side programming, you
could adapt a JavaScript password script, such as that at
www.rxs-enterprises.org/tests/jspass/

This script will require a small image with the same name (not extension) as
the file, for every file.

The best solution would be a server-side database application, where the
database stores all the valid filenames and paths to them. This application
would allow the user to search for a file, and reduce problems caused by
wrong spellings etc.

Thanks for the tip. I'm moving my hosting service to a windows based product
with ASP and Access support. Can I do ASP coding inside FP or do I need
another product as well?

Yes, in fact FrontPage has database related wizards that may help you with
the project.
