| Hi,
We just installed IIS 5.0 and FP 2000 on our win 2000
server. The web site works, but the fp2000 does not
function properly: I cannot set any security for the web
from fp2000. The Tools -- Security on the menu-bar is
faided. Do I need to do something else to let fp2000 be
able to set the permision to different domain users?
Thanks!

Have you actually opened the web in FrontPage? You need to do that
before the security option becomes live.
As I recall, MS changed from security per user to security per role in
that version. You can either add users to a given role, or find the KB
article that tells you how to set a registry entry to go back to the
security per user. You will be fighting the tides of progress if you
go back to that method.

I did open my web site with fp2000. The problem is that
it does not ask username/password to open it and the
Tools-->Security is dimmed out. I also tried to setup
security permissions on the wwwroot folders etc., but it
does not change the situation. What article do you know
I should read and follow? Do you mean that newer version
of fp will work? e.g. fp2002 or fp2003? I feel the fp
2000 server extensions do not work in my IIS 5.0. How to
make it working?
Thanks!

No, Frontpage 2000 with the 2000 extensions work very well in IIS 5.0,
in fact I'd suggest they are far superior than the more recent FP
versions. I'm using FP2000 extensions and clients with the latest .NET
development system on our production servers and have no complaints.
Have you done a search in the Knowledge base? I seem to remember an
article about this? Are you using the NT accounts that Frontpage creates
for you COMPNAME\Admins, COMPNAME\Authors, COMPNAME\Brosers etc. Have
you run the tool in MMC to "check" the server extensions?
