Win2k3,IIS6,FPSE2002 Help!
|
|
|
| I've got server setup as mentioned above. FPSE broke and a form and search
function no longer worked. I couldn't make any progress so I
uninstalled/reinstalled FPSE. That didn't help so I wiped the web, then I
wiped IIS6 and the web. Now I'm worse off. The FPSE seem to be fine on the
server. (with a new blank web) I can repair and recalc through sharepoint.
All seems well except when I try to publish from FP2002 off site, It prompts
for a username password, then is says there's no FP web, do I want to
create? If I say yes or no then says there are no FPSE installed. I have
fought with this for hours. I'm pretty sick of FPSE. Any advice? I'm
thinking of a "clean" install of IIS because I noticed that even after
uninstalling/reinstalling IIS it still retained some settings. I'm wondering
if I can do a clean install if that wouldn't help (basically, that's all I
can think of to do at this point) Help!!! - Rob

I don't think the problem is FPSE. Cassius had it right--"The fault,
dear Brutus, is not in the stars, ..." It would appear that you are
expecting Win2K3 server/IIS 6 to work exactly the same way as in Win2K
server/IIS5. It doesn't.
But one thing that still works the same is that getting the FPSE to
work is at least a two-step process, and perhaps, a three-step process.
Step one: Install the FPSE to the IIS6 server, and this is what you do
when you install them after downloading, and double click the exe.
Step two: Configure the Virtual Web Server to use the FPSE. This you
do in Central Administration. I think the term there is upgrade the
site to FPSE. It is *not* Extend the site, which converts it to a WSS
site, which does not use the FPSE.
Until you configure the site, the error message will always say that
FPSE is not installed, even though you have done Step One.
Step three: Open the IIS manager, expand the IIS server so that you
see three folders below it. These are: Application Pools, Web Sites,
and Web Server Extensions. Double click the Web Server Extensions
folder and you will see a list of available Web Server Extensions. If
you don't see FPSE 2K2 and Indexing services listed there, then you
need to uninstall IIS, and make sure that indexing services is included
in the components when you reinstall it. Then reinstall FPSE 2K2.

| Thanks for the reply. As I mentioned in my earlier post, I think FPSE is
working properly from the server. I have the choices on my website in IIS
manager to recalc, check and remove FPSE2002. I can and have recalced and
recheck the extensions successfully. (implying that it is installed. Prior
to extending, only one choice is listed (Configure Server Extensions)) In
your step three below, Under Web Server Extensions, FPSE 2002 are listed and
set to "Allowed"
Just for grins, I just created a new web site. After creation, I chose
Configure Server Extension, chose my new site to extend and it completed
successfully. Now Under Web Server admin, under virtual servers I show three
sites, Administration, my original site, plus the test site just created.
All three show version 5.0.2.5012 and administraton beside them meaning that
they are "extended" correct?
Basically I think I'm back to the same question, It looks like it should be
working at the server but, when I try to publish from off site using FP2002,
it prompts for username/password (which it accepts) then it tells me a web
doesn't exist, if I say ok, it tells me the server doesn't have fpse or
there's a proxy problem or the servers out of order or an error may have
occurred. Any additional suggestions would definitely be appreciated. -Rob
I've published before under these exact same conditions before.(same
machines, same OS's same fpse, same fp.) just not since I started having
form and search problems.

How are you logging in from off-site? Check to see if authentication has been
reset in all the un- and re-installing.

Configured and using FPSE 5.0.2.5012, but not "extended" to WSS.

With respect to the search problems, did they show up in the Web Extensions

| Thanks for responding.
The search problem I mentioned was a "no results" returned issue while
searching the site via a FP search. I also was not able to submit a form
which emailed results.
I'm about to uninstall/reinstall IIS and FPSE again. (I'm not out any work
at this point) Any suggestions? Should I select front page 2002 server
extensions in the add/remove programs while installing IIS6 or run it
separately after installing IIS? Is there any data or registry entries that
should be deleted to create a "clean" install? Are the default permission
ok, in general? I've been over and over the web, microsofts site and many
others and can't find anything that I'm not doing correctly. I've got
another server running and everything looks the same from IIS manager and
WSS web admin. thanks - Rob

Boy, I have to admit that I don't have any of these answers. I'm not sure I
would do this again until I got some additional responses. Start a thread
with just the one question: Is there any data or registry entries that
> should be deleted to create a "clean" install? Make it short, without a
lot of background until asked for it.
Multi-question threads tend to get skipped just because anyone trying to make
the most impact will avoid it to avoid getting mired down in just figuring
out the question.

Did this get solved? Have you gone through the .idq file/catalog bit
already?
You never did reply to the direct question of whether or not the Indexing
Service is listed in the Web Services Extensions?
Have you set your email form to point to the Exchange server? And then,
in the Exchange Server Manager Console, set the Exchange server to relay
from the IPAddres of your IIS server?

| Went ahead and did some searching and posts. No luck. I talked to a guy at
the university where I work that admins the MS web servers and had no luck
there except general opinion that FPSE are a problem prone pain.
Went ahead and uninstalled FPSE and IIS. Did some checking to be sure of the
installation procedure and reinstalled. I used the Win2k3 Server Manager
tool. With that tool, it's pretty much impossible to make any errors. When
finished, everything looked exactly as it did before, site extended,
Extensions allowed. Unfortunately, with the same results too. FP prompts for
password then no FP web found.
No, Indexing service is not listed under IIS manager web server extensions.
I don't think it's supposed to be actually. It is running as a service on
the system. My other Win2k3 server doesn't show it either and it's search is
working ok.
I'm not using Exchange as a mail server. However I do have the smtp set up
for the mail server I'm using. It also was working before FP broke. Since
reinstalling I have no way of testing because I have no way of publishing to
the web. I'm not too worried about these items. I suspect if I ever get the
publishing down. I may not have them as problems anymore.

I think I'm on my way to a workaround. I've install FP2002 on the server and
have been able to publish to http://localhost after fixing the Index server
problem (See below), I've found that the search works!!! Now I just need to
get the current copy of the web to the server and republish. At least the
customer will be running again.
I was wrong about Indexing service. It SHOULD be listed under IIS mgr web
extension but it wasn't, even though it was running as a service on the
server. I ran into a thread indicating many people were having this
particular problem. Uninstalling/reinstalling Indexing service took care of
this part of my problems.
Thanks for your help - Rob

I'm having a similar problem when I try to create a NetWork Place in
WinXP. It basically says it can't find a web there. I have a question
on the WinXP.Setup ng about it.
