Windows Server 2003 Web Edition FrontPage Config Hangs
|
|

| Hello,
I've got a Windows 2003 Web Edition server with the latest patches running
FrontPage Server Extensions 2002, as installed off of the 2003 CD. Whenever
I go to set up Extensions for virtual webs, the process hangs - i.e. the
animated GIF of the gears does not move, and eventually the page just times
out. It does, however seem to install them because in the global
administration it gives an "Administration" link instead of "Extend" like
those the process has not been run on. Other symptoms include forms not
working - Adding users, checking permissions, etc.
BUT, in my last string of random solution testing I found a solution - if I
set Mozilla Firefox as the default browser and use it to configure
extensions, everything works fine. IE is 6.0.3790.0, 128 bit.
Has anyone seen this? I couldn't find any reference online to go off of for
this problem.

| Do you have all the latest patches and updates installed for the extensions?

| As far as I know - nothing else shows up under Windows Update.

| Hi Adam,
Windows 2003 uses Index server for searching. Make sure that Index
server is installed and running as well as Index Server is Allowed in the
Web server extensions using the IIS manager.
In the existing site you can check whether the search web bot uses the
indexing service or not, by using the following steps.
1. Insert the search web bot on a new page in the existing site. Do the
same in the newly created site. Compare the properties of the search web
bot.
2. In the code view search of b-useindexserver. If the value is 0, then
it is not using the Indexing service.
The resolution is - Create a new site and insert a search web bot and
ensure that it is working. If it is working, publish the old site to this
new
Please check the KB articles - Q 205618, Q 203796
Hope this helps

| They don't appear in Windows Update. Must be done manually. There are at
least 3 patches/updates that need to be applied.
