Author Unable to import files >1MB into FP2000

I am unable to import or transfer files directly into FP2K
if they are over about 1MB in size. For example if I wish
to drag several pictures into the images directory I have
to break them up into groups smaller than 1MB to be
successful. Likewise if I try to import a PDF of 1.2MB it
is not going to work, yet a file of 750K will.

I've checked that all read-only flags are cleared.

I'm running W2K Professional and this problem first
cropped up a couple of months ago and I haven't been able
to figure it out. Lots of hard drive space available.

FP2K publishes to the web site just fine, this appears to
be the only headache.

Thanks!

This 1MB "limit" is a known bug that apparently came about with a windows
and/or IE update.

There is no known resolution at this time.

You have got to be kidding...Is there update number known
so I can un-install it?

I guess it is almost time to drop Frontpage and finish my
switchover to OS-X. I am used to Frontpage and kept my W2K
machine going as a result, but you are right, I did update
it a while ago and that must have been the cause of my
headaches. This is a sad commentary on MS though IMHO.

This is totally rediculous. I'm running an ASP site with a 130 MB database. How am I supposed to upload my database if FP won't let you upload a file over 1 MB ? I used a an FTP client to upload the data and of course I had to turn off my FrontPage extens
ions to do that. Once I turned my extensions back on I lost my entire navigation structure along with my shared borders and link bars. What a joke. I can't believe MS won't fix this bug. They should allow an upgrade to 2003 if they can't fix this problem.
I paid good money for this stupid program.

Don't turn off the extensions. As long as you are uploading individual
files, and never upload a folder, the extensions should not be damaged when
using FTP. When upload is complete, open the online site in FrontPage and
Tools-Recalculate Hyperlinks will bring the extensions back into synch.

Well, I've spent the day trying to uninstall all the
updates on my W2K machine that is giving me these
headaches with importing large files. No success...

However I have found something interesting. If the file is
smaller than at least 941KB then the import to the web
page folder on my PC (drag and drop) works properly.

Files between 998KB and 1024KB in size give an error
message "Server error: 'pdfs/Troub....(file name)' does
not refer to a page or folder in this web. It may be a
page or folder in subweb, or it could be a badly formed
URL."

A file of 1027KB or larger gives the 'normal' error
message: "An error occured accessing your FrontPage web
files. Authors - if authoring...."

So does this information help to narrow down the suspect?

At this point I'm about to re-install W2K from scratch and
try and identify the upgrade that causes this issue.

The error only happens when working with Disk-Based webs, doesn't happen when working with a
Server-Based Webs.

So if you start using http://localhost (Server- Based - requires IIS to be installed with
Extensions) instead accessing your web as disk-based (c:\My Documents\My Webs or c:\webname) then
you will avoid the issue.
