Author _vti_rmv directory in the root web

We're running an IIS 6.0 box the the FPSE 2002 installed.

Since a few days I have a \_vti_pvt\_vti_rmv directory on one of our websites.
The security eventlog tells me that there are some users trying to delete
subdirectories like "DeleteMe2".

Does anybody know where these directories come from and what to do with
them? Can I delete them?

Thanks

Thomas
