Install FPSE 2000 on Windows Server 2003
|
|
|
| Hi,
Is it possible to run Frontpage 2000 Server Extensions on Windows Server 2003?
The reason that I ask is that I'm migrating an application from Windows 2000
Server with FPSE 2000 to Windows Server 2003. The application incorporates FP
webs. All user management is performed by the application and not from FPSE.
Therefore the application depends on the "Manage permissions manually"
feature in FPSE 2000. I understand this is not available in FPSE 2002.
I did install FPSE 2000 on Win 2003, but nothing happens when I click
"Configure server extensions" on a web site. Are there any tricks to make it
work or is it simply impossible?
Can anyone help me out?

| No.
Under Windows 2003 server, you can only use the FP extensions that come on the Windows 2003 Server
Installation CD.

| Thomas,
Thank you for your quick reply.
I guess I'll have to think of a solution that uses FPSE 2002.
My problem is that I'll have to work with the local groups that FPSE uses to
add / remove users. For this purpose FPSE 2002 uses the OWS_ groups.
Is there a way to influence which groups are used by a FPweb? So that when I
create a new FPweb (e.g. childweb1) I can use a specific local group (e.g.
childweb1 browsers) for the browsers role instead of the OWS_123412234 group
that FPSE2002 creates by default.
OR
Is it possible to programmatically find out which groups are used by a given
FPweb? This way I could find out which OWAS_ group is being used for a given
role for a given FPweb and mange the users of the OWS_ group without using
FPSE administrator.
Your help is appreciated...

| Sorry, I can not help with this part of your issue, as I don't use the extensions in relationship to
specific groups.
