I get the following msg when I try to install FrontPage Extensions on my
Windows XP system: "The server administration programs and the server
extensions on the web server are not compatible. The administration program
is too old to use with this server"
I then get this message: "Microsoft FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 was
successfully installed."
The extensions do not work. (I get a message that I must use a from from a
site with FrontPage Extensions installed.
My system is as follows:
- Windows XP Pro - Build 2500.xpsp_sp2_gdr.050301-1519
- IIS Version 5.1
- FrontPage 2003 - (11.6356.6360) SP1
- FrontPage Extensions 2002
I have downloaded the Windows 2003 Administration package as directed by a
knowledge base article and still get the same problem.
I have uninstalled and reinstalled just about everything.

Any idea what I am doing wrong?

In order to use the extensions after they are installed, you must open the site in FP via
http://localhost/sitename or view the site via http://localhost/sitename/pagename.htm in your
browser.

Tom: How do I find the ID and Password it asks for?

It is whatever you have assigned or your web host assigned.

Tom: A standalone Windows XP Pro is my system so, I guess I am the system
administrator. How would I go about creating the user and setting the
password?

Normally on your local system you wouldn't be required to enter a login for the web site, as it
would use your Windows Login. When you install IIS and the extensions, you were logged in as the
Admin, correct? When you run FP and try to access IIS and the extensions are you under the same
user's account?
