Unable to remove of FPSE on IIS6.0
|

| I have Win2003 Server with IIS with FPSE. I need to host SPS 2003 on the
same, but for it I need to remove FPSE. Seems like there is no way to remove
FPSE. I have tried removing through "Windows components" and successfully
completed it as "Windows components" does'nt show FPSE as installed.
But IIS still shows that FPSE extensions are installed and allowed.
It is virtually impossible to un-install the IIS as some other custom
reporting application is hosted and being used by multiple users.
Is there anyway to remove the FPSE? any registry entries that I need to
modify?
any suggestions would be of great help...
Regards

| You should be able to remove it in the Root Web in IIS (right click for All tasks)

| I found a thread to the OSE that talks about removing the server extensions
for Office that include FP, but it was related to FP2000. I have FP 2003
installed on a W2K Server with IIS 5.0 and would like to know if the FP 2002
ext replace the basic extension insalled by FP 2003 setup.
Good luck with your removal quest. I have tried to remove the standard FP
extensions using the MMC Snap-in, but get an error message about the Server
Adminstration Program being too old. Finally found a thread to this error,
but it provided no solution.

I am in the same boat and looking for a KB or something that says how to
completely uninstall FPSE2002 manually, like the one for completely uninstalling
WSS and SPSS manually. I have prohibited it manually, in the web server
extensions, but I think something is still hanging around.

| Same here, After I removed the frontpage extensions 2002 from windows
component. The dll files still there (50/asapi/) and I manuallly removed
them but it recreated after a few seconds upto delete. I turned off IIS and
deleted it but still same effect. Even reinstalling IIS didn't do anything.
I am guessing some other process is running it. It's weird and I need
someone to tell me what's going on with this. I thought removing component
supposed to remove them. Atleast, it should prevent it from being in use.
Any further help is greatly appreciated.
Thanks,
Peter

Well, the way I got it to work was to uninstall FPSE2002, SPS2003, WSS 2.0 (or
whatever it is that you get when you install SPS2003), and then UNINSTALLed IIS.
I then installed IIS, WSS and then SPPS from the SPS2003 installation DVD.
Then I applied SP1 to WSS and then SP1 to SPPS. SPPS Search works now!
