| Running FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 on a Windows 2000 server.
The current FrontPage web sites on our IIS have version numbers of:
4.0.2.7802
5.0.2.4330
5.0.2.2623
However, using the Internet Information Manager to create a new web
site yields a non-FrontPage web site with version number:
6.0.2.6353
as shown on the 'Server Extensions' tab of the web Properties window.
When we attempt to add the FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 to this
web site by right-clicking on the web site and selecting the task:
'Configure Server Extensions 2002'
from the drop-down task list, the task is not there (but it shows for
other web sites).
Also, if we use the web-based FrontPage Server Extenions 2002 Server
Administrator, the new web site appears on the list along with the
other web sites and their URLs, but it's the only web site with a
version number of:
6.0.2.6353
And, where the other web sites have the words 'Upgrade', Extend', or
'Administration' in the far right column, the new web site has
nothing...it's just blank.
Some of the error messages we are getting:
'The Server Administration programs and the Server Extensions on
the web server are not compatible. The Administration program is
too old to use with this service.'
'Unable to access configuration for Microsoft IIS.'
We've reloaded the FrontPage Server Extensions 2002 serveral times,
but that doesn't seem to help.
Can anyone offer suggestions as how to fix this problem?

| Clarification on your versions
4.0.2.7802 - FP 2000 SE (upgrade to FP2002 SE and uninstall the FP 2000 SE)
5.0.2.4330 - The version installed by the Front Page 2002 Server Extensions Security update: September 25, 2002 - 329086
(http://support.microsoft.com/defaul...scid=kb;[LN];Q329086). You need to install the most recent service release 5.0.2.4803
to bring this installation up to date.
5.0.2.2623 - The version of the original installation of FrontPage Server Extensions 2002. You need to install the most recent
service release 5.0.2.4803 to bring this installation up to date
6.0.2.6353 - The version that FrontPage 2003 uses only for disk based Web sites (part of the FP client software and what shows when
you open a Disc based web)
If you have applied the FP SE to the root web in IIS you should be creating your subwebs under the FP SE
Sequence of installation of the FP SE
1) Download FP 2002 Server Extensions:
http://www.microsoft.com/downloads/...CB-25D2F0815FA3
2) Download FP2002 Server Extensions Updates (and install in this order):
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...US/fpse1001.exe
http://download.microsoft.com/downl...US/fpse1002.exe
3) Install the latest Security Patch at:

| Stefan,
Thank you for your help!
We were aware of FPSE2002 and the FPSE2002 security patch, but we did
not know about the updates FPSE1001 and FPSE1002. We applied all 4
items per the sequence in your instructions. We then used the
web-based FrontPage Server Administration page to remove the FPSEs
from all web sites running older FPSE2000 and FPSE2002 versions, then
re-installed FPSE2002 on those same web sites (including the default
web site) so that they are now all running version 5.0.2.4803.
Using the Internet Information Manager, we attempted to remove all
FPSE2000 extensions per your instructions, but continue to get the
following error message:
'The Server Administration programs and the Server Extensions on
the web server and not compatible. The Administration program is
too old to use with this service.'
There are two tabs that appear in the properties window for each
FrontPage web site (except for one):
Server Extensions
Server Extensions 2002
Is that normal? The one web site that shows a single tab:
Server Extensions
is the one that is 'disk based' at version 6.0.2.6353. How do we
remove the 'disk based' version and get it back to FPSE2002 version
5.0.2.4803? What does 'disk based' mean? Some of the FPSE
functionality has ceased to work in version 6.0.2.6353; for example,
form to e-mail and hit counters.

The 1st one is remnants of the 2000 SE
Did you remove the 2000 SE (IIS details in Control panel)

| I'm not certain which Control Panel to which you are referring, but I
cannot find anything that relates to removing FPSE2000. I looked in
the Windows Control Panel, Add/Remove Programs, and the IIS Management
Console, and there is nothing to indicate that FPSE2000 is installed
anywhere. The one web site that was running version 4.0.2.7802 has
been upgraded to version 5.0.2.4803, and seems to be running without
incident. Should I check somewhere else for this?
