I am having trouble getting my webpage published. When the FP SE are
working, the themes are not and I only show one page. When the web is
published via FP the forms don't work and I get the message that certain
files exist on the server but not in the web.

I have turned the SE's on and off, stripped the web, etc. but cannot get
the extensions to work.

Any thoughts, help?

Thanks

Themes don't require the FP SE
The FP Forms handlers do

Make sure you home page file name is the same as that required by your host
and publish All using FP http mode

Dear Stefan,

Thank you for your response. The problem that I am having still occurrs.
When I try to publish via ftp I get a confirmation window that states that
_vti or hta Access files are not found in the web to be published but are on
the server and do I want them removed from the server. I was told the tech
support not to remove these files because they are the SE files necessary for
the forms etc, to function.

When I get to the point where the web is about to be published I get a
message:

"The follwoing pages in your website contain dynamic FrontPage componets....
They will not work because the server you are publishing to does not have
FrontPage server extensions installed."

The server does have the SE installed and they are activated.

I get this same message if the SE is turned on or off during my attempt to
publish the web.

Any Ideas?

Thank you

Mike

Using FTP to publish will corrupt the extensions. Do NOT use FTP.

Re-install the extensions on the server.

Then publish using FrontPage's HTTP mode.

File->Publish Web / Site (wording varies according to version of FrontPage

In the remote site properties (FP2003) and dialogues (other versions) make
sure that the publish destination address is in the form
http://www.domain.com

Repeat - do NOT use FTP, this will corrupt the extensions. Look up Publish
in the FrontPage help.

Dear Ronx,

Thank you for your help. I did not publish using FTP as I got the same
message and hit cancel before the web tried to publish. The problem is that
I get the same message if I try to publish via HTTP or FTP. It makes no
difference what-so-ever. No matter what I do, I get the notice that the form
pages are there and that the SE needs to be installed and activated. They
are installed and activated. If I publish the web anyway via HTTP, when I
try to check the forms I get a runtime error that the SE are not installed.

I am using FP2002 with XP Home and 1and1 hosting. I used the corporate
template in FP to build the web.

Should I go page by page to build and publish?

Do I need the server extensions on my home computer?

Does a firewall effect the publication? I am using ZoneAlarm pro for a
firewall.

Any ideas?

Thanks

Mike

You do not need the extensions on your own computer.

The firewall may be blocking the publishing process. In the firewall,
FrontPage must be entered as a server (using terminology from ZoneAlarm 2.6;
v2.6 was the last version of ZoneAlarm I was able to use FrontPage) - some
users find it necessary to uninstall (not merely disable) Zone Alarm when
using FrontPage.

If you can open the remote web in FrontPage the extensions are installed.
If the forms use email it may be necessary for 1and1 to configure email
transport in the extensions.
