Author TOC fails to update

The TOC is based on the navigation structure... when I rearranged the
navigation structure in NAV view, the TOC failed to change!

I have been doing this successfully for YEARS.... and this has NEVER HAPPENED.

I 'fixed' the FP extensions... I even published the site locally and tried
deleting the TOC page and recreating it using a different location and
name... but when I add the TOC component... guess what.... same thing! Smae
obsolete nav structure! I CLEARED the nav structure COMPLETELY... and it's
still reflecting there in TOC!

Which file should I delete via ftp to KILL the current TOC component which
is shadowing a non-existent nav structure?

Run a Tools Recalculate Hyperlinks, then open your TOC page and right click the TOC to check it's prosperities and resave the page

Thanks for trying.... that is the first thing I tried... Recalc does nothing
for the TOC.... which is odd... it usually solves that problem. The TOC is
TOTALLY FROZEN.

What DID work was completely deleting all the Front Page components... all
the vti, private, cfg, everything and having FP recreate a web site in that
folder again.

That's known as removing FPSE, losing the metadata, and reconfiguring the
site. It should be one of the options in the IIS manager when you right click
a site, all choose All Tasks.

Thanks Buddy, that is good to know.

The situation was that I did not have access to the IIS manager as it is a
remote virtual server hosted by another company... not at all local. But if
it were local or accessible, that would what I'll do next time...

I did not want to call their tech support and get the same answere I usually
do.... that 'they don't know because they aren't really familiar with FP
extensions'.... and to run the 'fix' wizard... which didn't work in this
case... the 'fix' option destroyed all the sub web and shared border
settings.... so I simply took out the rest manually seeing how I had to
reconfigure the entire site anyway.

But, now it is happy now and updates just fine.... I just wonder what pissed
it off to begin with... I didn't do anything unusual... I simply moved pages
around in the navigation view, recalc'ed, and noticed that it didn't
update.... even when ALL the pages were removed from nav view... the TOC
showed all pages listed anyway. Really ODD. Never saw that in all my years.

It could ONLY happen to me....
