SUS and 'Unable to create Web...' error
|

| Greetings,
I get the following error "Unable to create a Web for the URL "/"
because its root directory, C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_private, falls below
the root of another Web in the directory, C:\Inetpub\wwwroot".
Under C:\Inetpub\wwwroot\_private are the files for Software Update
Services administration.
What can I do to fix this? I've read KB 201522 but I'm not sure what
should I do. What I gather is that I must remap the SUS administration
site, but I don't know how...
The server is a Windows 2000 server that acts as a domain controller
with SUS installed.

| C:\Inetpub\wwwroot is reserved for use by IIS as the default server based web normally access thru http://loclahost (or
http://machinename/) and it should be opened in FP as such (not using the file based path)
You can not add subweb to a folder (or any folder w/ an _underscore) - especially the _private folder
Open the root web in FP and create a new folder - say SUS, and after moving your files to it from _private convert it to a subweb
(you can also set unique permissions on it if you need to)

The real question is: Is Software Update Services compatible with
Frontpage Extensions? I didn't touch the Default Web site of the
server, the installation program of SUS put under _private all that
files. I presume that this is what causing the error with frontpage
extensions. So, is there a way around this problem?

The way around it is to create a new Virtual Server, using the IIS
Management Console, giving it another IP or host header, and
installing it there. You are given the choice of letting it install to
the default web site or a new virtual server. Choose the latter.
