Duplicate Pages in Web
|
|
|
| Hi all, I hope you are doing well.
I moved my web site from one host to another. When I published the site to
the new host, I ended up with duplicate web pages for each page in the
directory. In other words, I have 3 search.htm pages, 3 index.html pages, 3
mypage.htm, etc. When I delete one of the three pages, all three disappear,
which is not good. I can't republish the site to my hard drive to try and
correct before publishing back to hosting server because it tells me I can't
have duplicate file names.
The new host tech support folks said FrontPage does that. Well I been doing
this for 10 years and have several web sites and this is the first time I've
seen it happen.
Does anyone have a clue as to what I can do to fix the problem without
having to redo complete web site?
Thanks in advance.

| Search for and delete all *.web files associated with FrontPage.
These are normally located in
%APPDATA%\Microsoft\Web Server Extensions\Cache
and are hidden system files.
If the new server is Unix, duplicates may be caused by CaSe problems -
where index.htm is a different file to Index.htm is different to
index.HTM, but it is unlikely this would be so widespread as you
report (and deleting one would not delete all three).
