Author Can't open my web sites in FrontPage 2003??

I installed frontpage 2003 and am trying to open my sites and I get an error
saying "the frontpage server extensions installed on server are too old to
work with the current version of the client program." The people who run the
server have 2000 extensions on the server and are not planning on upgrading.
Usually, you can use a newer version of FP EVEN THOUGH the updated extensions
aren't installed...you would just lose some features. Now.......I can't even
open it! I even unchecked the authoring/sharepoint, etc. stuff and I still
get this error. Am I out of luck?

FrontPage2003 will work without problems (apart from features) with
FP2000 or FP2002 extensions.
The only time I have seen this error is when trying to configure
FP2002 extensions with the FP2000 configuration program.

Can you give a link to the website?

Thanks for your feedback Ronx.
I work for a company's Intranet site so it's all inside the company.

I have no control over the extension aspect of it. They are not supporting
FP anymore. But, I have upgraded FP over the years and I don't care if I
can't use all the features. Now, I just get this error message and that's it.

I have no other option than to downgrade back to FP2002. What a bummer! It
used to be so easy!

You can check which version of extensions are installed by looking at
http://example.com/_vti_inf.html

( that's _vti_inf.html if the above is not clear)

Replace example.com with your server. The extensions version is found
by viewing source.

Those are FP98 extensions. I believe FP2003 will *not* work with
those, and I would not like to use any other FP version with them.

Either stop using any FP components that require extensions (including
forms, discussion webs, search) replacing these with server-side
scripts (ASP, Perl/CGI, php etc.),then use FTP to move files between
your desktop and server.
Or get the extensions updated (which you have stated your hosts are
reluctant to do).

Thanks for the response. With previous versions of Frontpage, you could
always just "open" a site up and then you would determine what you wanted to
use or not. It didn't matter what version of extensions were on the server.

Now....I can't even OPEN the site. That's a bummer. I wouldn't use the
2003 extension features...I just want to open the site and open my pages,
etc. FTP'ing is just too much work. I'm downgrading back to FP2002. That
seems to work just fine on the server with 98 extensions.
