Server Error when publishing
|
|
| sodajunkie 2005-04-19, 5:55 pm |
| Hi folks,
Recently we did some security updates here and I am no longer able to
publish changes to our website. WE host the site locally using FrontPage
server extensions. We have 2 static IPs that we lease from our service
provider. Even though the files are simply published to another local folder
our method was to simply publish to our domain (http://www.domainname.com)
and it worked flawlessly. Lately we are getting this message:
Unable to open 'http://www.domainname.com'.
Server error: Could not find a Web server at 'www.domainname.com'. Please
check to make sure that the web server name is valid and your proxy settings
are set correctly. If you're sure that everything is correct, the web server
may be temporarily out of service. Possible causes:
1. The web server may not have the FrontPage Server Extensions installed.
2. The web server may be temporarily out of service.
3. If you are connecting through a proxy server, the proxy settings may be
incorrect.
4. An error may have occurred in the web server.
If this server does not support the FrontPage Server Extentions, FrontPage
may still be able to publish to the server via FTP.
It seems like it's something simple, but I just don't get it. Anybody have
any suggestions? Does it have to do with the latest security updates? Do
we need to uninstall and reinstall FP Extensions? Please HELP!
Thanks!
John

| Hi Tom,
Thanks for the quick response! Our server is running Windows 2000. The
latest "successful" updates were for BITS 2.0 and .NET Framework. I just
noticed however, we are having trouble downloading other Windows 2000 updates
for Service Pack 1. Could this be our trouble?
Thanks again!

| Yes, it could be your problem, if you're still at SP1 for Win2K. You need
to go to SP4.

| Well, I was able to download all the security updates and I was able to
confirm that we are running Win 2000 with SP4. I'm still having the same
trouble unfortunately...
Our DNS info hasn't (or at least shouldn't have) changed. But I can't rule
it out I guess...I'll look into that in the meantime.
Incidentally we are running FP Server Extensions version 5.0.2.4803.
Are there any known conflicts with FP 2003 and this version of Server
Extensions? We performed an Office update recently as well. Don't know if
this affected it.
Thanks again!

| One other thought... come to think of it, the DNS must be OK since I can
access the website from outside the Server (via other PCs etc.)
However, we are "publishing" the pages from the Server to the Server using
http://www.domainname.com via the 'FrontPage or Sharepoint Services'
function of FP2003.
Could something in Inetpub be the problem? I'm definitely not a network
guy, so I might have some trouble in this area...
Thanks,
John
