Author Search error on 2003 server

We had a site with correct Search functionality on a Windows 2000 server
running FPSE 2000. Our ISP upgraded the server to Windows 2003. We
republished the same site to the new server. There are no errors reported.
Other FP features like link bars work fine. Search fails. It has been a
couple of months and the ISP cannot figure out what to do. We upgraded in
house to FP 2003 at the suggestion of the ISP but it did not make any
difference. Do we need to make any changes to our site to publish to the
2003 server? It seems like it is getting the old FP 98 nortbots error. Site
can be viewed at www.computerassistance.com

Has the host configured Index Server for the searches? Windows 2003 does
not support the default WAIS search that was normal on previous versions.

Tom,

Thanks for the reply. It took a while to get an answer from the ISP. Yes, he
has Index server running and he says that he can go to the catalog and see
that it has been created for the site.

I found that the _vti_inf entry on the live site indicates the Search webbot
has this <!--webbot bot="PurpleText" instead of webbot Search. We ran a
text search of the machine that runs FrontPage locally and there is no text
string "PurpleText" on the machine. Evidently the publishing process is
picking this up somewhere.

Thanks for any help.

Myles

_vti_inf ? The only _vti_inf I have seen on a FrontPage web site is
_vti_inf.html. This page will only exist on the server and indicates
that the extensions are installed. The page will not exist on your
PC, unless you are running a webserver with FP extensions installed.

Your search page is using _derived_nortbots.htm for the form action.
nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to
a URL of the form http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

Try opening the live (http://www.computerassistance.com) web site in
FrontPage and running Tools->Recalculate Hyperlinks
If this fails, then remove the search component from the page, save
the page and recalculate hyperlinks, then re-insert the search
component. Do this on the live site.

The _vti_inf.html page only indicates that the FP extensions have been
installed on your web at some time, it also (from the version numbers)
confirms that you are on a Win2003 server. The page does *not*
confirm that the extensions are actually running, nor does it have
anything to do with the search webbot.

Open the Search page in a browser (not FrontPage), View Source and
find the search form.
Check the action attribute. If it mentions nortbots.htm then one or
more of those four conditions in my previous post apply, or you have a
scenario that no-one to my knowledge has seen before.

The set up on Windows 2003 IIS6 is different to that on Windows 2000.
Index Service has to be allowed in IIS in the Web Server Extensions.

Are you publishing to an http:// address, or to an ftp:// address?
Have you checked this?

Can you open the site in FrontPage either using File->Open Web or use
the Open remote site link in Remote Web Site view. If so, open the
search page and remove the search component. Save and close the page
the page. Open the page, and re-insert the component. Save the page
and preview in browser.
