Author Can't publish
T. Utley

I'm at my wits end trying to publish to my FP web to my own comuter to test
some ASP pages. I have IIS and 2002 extensions installed on my computer (XP
Pro). And, I can access the server at http://localhost/. However, when I
attempt to publish my web to http://localhost/test for the first time, I'm
asked if I'd like FP to create the web at that location. When I click "yes"
I end up back at the original dialog box. I haven't created a virtual
directory in IIS. Do I need to do that first? If I do that, do I need to run
the permissions wizard on the new directory before attempting to publish?
When I do attempt to publish, will the address be
http://localhost/newdirectory? Does MS have a tech support page devoted to
this problem? Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks

Open http://localhost/ in FP and run Server Admin to try to create your subweb
Then try to publish to it

Thanks Stephan. Followed your directions, but got box informing me that I
don't have permissions to open the site. Where do I go from there? Thanks.

If you are getting a permissions problem w/ locahost on your PC then in the IIS MMC check the permissions for your root web (Start
All Programs Administrative Tools - IIS)

PS
One cause often is on Win XP Pro if you do not use a password to log on to the PC

My root web inherits its permissions, and I use Windows XP Pro without a
password. You're the first person to mention that this may be the culprit
for my problems--what do I do? Thanks Stephan.

I do have a stong firewall, but with a home network I've choose not to use a
logon password for XP. That said, any suggestions how I might solve my
problem?
