| I'm hosting my own FP2000 designed site on Win2K Server with extensions
installed and configured. SMTP server set to mail.charter.net. Server and
send email addresses the same: elove2@charter.net. When submit form:
http:\\www.xcaretsoftware.com\svcorder.htm
I get the following error:
FrontPage Run-Time Component Page. You have submitted a form or followed a
link to a page that requires a web server and the FrontPage Server Extensions
to function properly. This form or other FrontPage component will work
correctly if you publish this web to a web server that has the FrontPage
Server Extensions installed.
Do I need to upgrade to 2002 extentions?

| The FP forms to email transport will not work with a third party email
server. Email must be sent from your domain. For example, if your web is
www.mydomain.com, your email server must also be mydomain.com
How to Configure the FP extensions for email:

However, when I test the forms on a non-3rd party server, I get the same
error:

FP2000 extensions, Win2KSBServer, SMTP: mail.jdcsecurity.com, From:
jdcsecurityservice@jdcsecurity.com
Do I need to restart ISS?

| That error message comes from _derived/nortbots.htm
nortbots.htm only appears in four cases:
1) You are testing on a disc-based website, including a web that was
edited as a FrontPage disc-based web and is being browsed through a
web-server.
2) You are testing on a website that does not have server extensions
installed or running
3) The site (or form page) was FTPed from a disc-based web, or
published using a FTP address for the destination. Publish must be to
a URL of the form http://example.com
4) There is a bug associated with FrontPage98 which causes this
problem.

| Sounds like problem #1 might be mine. I'm not clear on the remedy. I don't
use the "publish" function. I copy web files to the server manually. What
does the publish function do that a manual copy does not?

| When you copy -you copy exactly what is in the original. When you
publish, any run-time components on the page are altered to suit the
server being published to, the changes depend on the component and the
type of server (Windows vs Unix). Additionally, other data files
within the extensions are updated.
The remedy is to check, possibly re-install, the extensions - they are
easily corrupted by copying the wrong files, then use FrontPage to
publish to the web server, using a http://webservername address as the
destination.
